Hello

Here's who I am & what I do

Hi, I'm Costas Peratopoullos, an independent stained glass designer-maker living in North Buckinghamshire, the sole proprietor of Purple Fig Creations.

Why 'Purple Figs'? This is a nod to my cultural heritage as an English-born Greek Cypriot. My family has had a purple fig cut and cultivated many times, dating back hundreds of years. This has been passed on to me from my parents, their parents, and now to my children and grandchildren.

My inspiration comes from the wonderful natural world that surrounds us, and folklore which takes us back to a time that is now just a memory, but shared today with stories and tales. My designs try and reflect texture, form and colour which can be found in nature.

Life here in Buckinghamshire means a daily walk with my collie along the river and fields. This keeps me connected with nature and the seasons. It's followed by a coffee, and then into my studio to begin my day.

All pieces are handmade and as a result, are unique, they have personalities and quirky qualities that independent British design has to offer.

My unique designs are all created by myself from start to finish. With the exception of using an

electric kiln, I use the same processes that would have been used during the medieval period.

The design is first sketched onto paper, I then cut the glass to shape and size before mixing the metal oxides and crushed glass into a paste. This then is applied to the glass. A range of techniques will be used to create the image onto the glass, which is then fired and then led.
